Just noticed this a few minutes ago - Excursion in the garage up on jack stands for various repairs - and I bumped into the front end while walking around and the headlight assembly on the passenger side is loose. Rather, the directional and triangle shaped housing right next to the headlight is completely loose. Held on by like one bolt I can wiggle it around like a loose tooth. Driver side is solid. Going to look into it over the winter.
It is held on with two Phillips screws which are above the turn signal light but below the headlight. Some of the units are held on with 10 mm screws , I have seen both , Just tighten them up

I just installed LED bulbs in my 2003 Excursion. Thw screws are below the parking/turn signals, and above the bumper. 2 phillips screws.

So how did you work it where you could use the retention ring to hold the bulb in place? I bought GTR lights-the ring will not fit over the fan section so the ring cannot engage the light assembly. If you put the ring over the light end of the LED, there is no flange to put the retention ring over to grasp the bulb. Long story short, I cannot get the bulb secured. The notches all line up fine-just can't keep the bulb in. Mine is a 2003 as well

Dorman makes a set of short rings that work with LED headlamps. I have Beamtech LEDs in my Excursion, they are fan less. Ive had the fan style in the past and don't seem as good. Mine have been in my Excursion since October 2019 and work as good now as they did then. 100% of my exterior bulbs are LED including the running boards. Next, is doing the interior/courtesy lights. If you need links to what i used, ill glady post them.
i also used the dorman short retention rings, not sure if it was the same part number as @Theboneskes but i got them at Oreillys, i have aftermarket headlights, and i had to use a small file and file down the 3 teeth on the inside edge of the ring just a tiny tiny little bit because apparently my aftermarket lights insert tube is ever so slightly larger, or the more probable reality, dorman's rings are slightly smaller than needed. The factory Ford ring did fit the new headlight, but with my LED bulb it covered up the vent holes, so bad idea.
I have used a lot of dorman parts, and they are a big believer in "its close enough", don't ever buy any cam or valve train parts from them, they had a class action regarding using sub standard grade metal which led to pre-mature failure of many of their such parts, cam syncronizers, and the shaft that goes between the cam and the cam sensor on Ford Vulcan motors such as the older 5.0s, and the 3.0, 3.8, 3.9 and 4.2 v6 motors, those shafts have teeth on one end, and would start to flake metal flakes into your oil after only a couple hundred miles, if you caught it quick you could replace it and save the motor, but after a thousand or two miles the metal flakes destroy the cam, cam bearings, oil pump, and force you into at minimum a partial rebuild, been there done that, on the Mustang Forums, its a well known fact to stay far away from any internal engine parts made by dorman.
Fits perfectly, the bulbs have been in the truck for over a year, no issues, and extensive night driving.
Dont let the Bulb Picture on amazon fool you into thinking it won't fit, the picture does not do it justice, the part of the LED Bulb that engages between the ring and the headlight enclosure has a twist lock, you can easily twist and remove the part with the O ring from the bulb, and slip the new retainer ring onto the bulb, and then put that part back on, one of the smarter designs i have seen on LED Headlights. Essentially the retainer ring does not have to fit over the fan on the bulb, it can be put on from the front like i explained.
Also, some of the pictures on the amazon item reflect other format bulbs, but as long as the title says 9007/HB5 you are getting the right stuff, they just re-use pictures between items...
All of this is assuming you are still using 99-04 headlights with you 2005-2007 grille like i am.
