body mounts
I'm rebuilding my bronco II '89.
Now the frame is free from everything except suspension and axles, so I can clean and paint it.
I see that body mounts are rusted out, and i will weld some steel plate on them and make a new hole for rubber bushings.
I see, holes for front bushings ar round, holes for rear bushings are oval. What about those in the middle of the frame? Holes are rusted out, so I can not see the original shape :(
There are a few different sets of old bushings in the parts box, so I do not know which ones are original. What is the original thickness of those body mounts?
I see the original design of bushings is not very good and I'm thinking how to make better ones. Seems some plumbing stuff with 1/2" pipe should work fine. For rubber I could use few layers of hard fabric-armed rubber, cut to rough to shape and drilled to accept 1/2" pipe. Any comments on this?
There used to be a writeup on the Ranger Station about using short pipe nipples and fittings to fab up homemade ones. Not sure if it's still there or not.
Anyway, even with new bushings I have to weld those mounts to be able to fit bushings there. So I need some info about those holes

I have seen that post in Ranger Station about home made bushings but they seem to have removed all the old threads
Maybe I will try to ask there...Anyway it's a fun to work with this old rusty steel
