On my 1992 E350 extended 460-E4OD I'd like to add more fuel capacity, I am looking for ideas on adding a fuel tank. Preferably mounted to the frame. I can add a T to the existing filler neck to create a transfer type setup.
The spare tire location is a possibility if you can carry the spare inside or hanging off a back door.
The big issue to me is keeping the evap system functional and passing emissions inspection with an auxiliary tank if required.
There are several ways to run two tanks with several levels of driver is information and involvement. Maybe find an OE setup you like and try to work with that hardware.
i pulled my spare tire and mounted it on a swinging bumper hanger. as i have a class5 welded in hitch, that left a nice square area when the spare moved., i installed a 20gal tank (sorry can't remember donor) and plumbed its' own filler (used a flush filler from the hot rod world) on the same side as the factory filler just further back, then tied in to the existing evap. using the gas sender hole i set it up with an external pump to just refill the main tank (via a manual switch and relay) when i choose. spare tank is smaller than my stocker so if i run the stock tank low, there is little chance of overfilling the main.
I acquired a 55 gallon tank from a 93 E350 Chassis cab dually 460 7.5, I will have to move rear cross members in my single wheel E350 460 7.5 to make it fit I can handle that. Question for transfer fuel pump anyone use the stock EFI pump in the transfer tank to pump to the main tank???
