Hello, I've just fitted a pair of Holley 94 carbs on my 53 f100 flathead V8 and now it sounds and drives fine at low throttle but a little bit of throttle and it's lumpy and sounds crap. The carbs have #49 jets and 5.5 power valve. Any ideas what I need to change to correct the fueling?
I can't help you, Dave, but I would guess you have the only 53 flathead with a dual carb setup in England and probably in the whole of UK and maybe all of Europe.
I know next to nothing about the difficulties you are describing, but I have read that when engines like mine (1952 215 I6) are converted to dual carb set-ups, the distributer needs to be changed. The original Load-a Matic, with it's vacuum only advance, just doesn't seem to be compatible with dual carbs.
What Jim said is correct. The factory Load-a-Matic distributor is designed to work with the factory carb. Many choose to run one of the converted Chevy distributors with the correct curve. There are other distributor options as well. Just not the factory one. This needs to be addressed for sure. The jetting may still need adjustment after.

I fitted power valves #4.5 , but i have a feeling the old power valve sealing rings weren't working too well so that was the reason it was running so rich.
The ignition upgrades are working very well, I only need to touch the key now and its starts right up.
