Newer Diesels
I have an old 7.3 Excursion. It is our 2nd. They are good family trucks.
I will probably change to a gasser for our next family vehicle.
- Easier to warm up in cold
- Quieter for the family
- Lighter for easier driving on curvy roads, better handling
Are there ANY good diesels anymore on ANY car? I don't want ANY of the following:
1) Exhaust Gas Recirculation
2) Diesel Exhaust Fluid
3) Diesel Particulate Filter
I guess these systems can be removed from many engines, but that is hard work, isn't it?
I am aware of the 6.7 Scorpion, but don't know too much about it.
I don't think it would be a sin to get a Cummins, either.

Anything newer than say 2007 will have the emissions systems (all or part) that you have listed. If I were going to get a sedan to haul the family around town, and I didn't have 4 kids to haul around, I'd probably go with a manual Jetta. 50mpg is awful appealing.
