How does TPMS work in 11-16?

I have a '15 250 Platinum and I was surprised there wasn't a menu for reading the tire pressures. I thought I'd drop 30 pounds of air out to see if I could activate it in the driveway. No messages. Are they the kind that require inertia to provide a reading? I haven't tried driving around the block yet but was just curious in between meetings here. Thanks in advance.

Alright, follow up question. I got the low pressure notification on the dash but I've filled it back up to 60psi and it's still on... do you have to perform the reset procedure every time there's a low pressure situation?

No you shouldn't have to, but you might have to put more than 60 psi in the tire to get the light out & then adjust your psi.

The manual states that when proper pressure is restored the vehicle is to be driven above 20 MPH for 2 minutes to clear the light.

Thanks for that! Funny enough this morning it was reset magically and it never moved more than 50 yards.

You have to drive like others have mentioned to activate the TPMS sensors unless you have the shop tool to hold next to them and activate them while the truck is stationary.

But yes, it sucks. There's no tire pressure monitor in the dash, just the light which is super unhelpful.

Install a Kenwood head unit with the OBDII connector and you can read the tire pressures on the gauge screen. Might be able to do it with scan gauge or other tools through ODBII. The TPMS sensors do have a sleep mode to conserve the batteries, and usually require some rotations to activate.
