redneck cowboy - When you say straight pipe do you mean no muffler? How does this sound? My friend did this to his 88 300 6 and it sounded like crap.

When I was looking for a truck I wanted the most power,But I wanted the toughest engine. People told me you can't kill a 300
6 . So I found a truck with a 300 6 in it and bought it. It was fine
for a few weeks and then one day I was heading to work driving
about 60 and I heard a knock and then the truck ouit on me.I
got out and looked under the hood and I put the number 6 rod
out through the block\oil pan.I bought this truck from and old guy
that I knew and it was never beat. I was just puttin along when it happend to.So then I got a 302 out of a 89 LTD and dropped it in.Power wase you wont notice it much and gas is not that different. But now that I have the 8 Iwould go back.

No muffler, no cats, just pipe. On the low-end side when lugging it sounds like a diesel, on the high-end side it screams like a tractor on steriods. But in my book it doesn't have to sound great, just so as long as it's loud. It's actually pretty quiet in the cab until you open the passenger side window. I'm using a 2in. pipe with a 3 1/2 in tip. Cost me $15 doing it myself.
Oh and why would you bolt in a 302 when you could bolt up a 351W. Go with a 351W as long as you're doing a swap.
