You may have suffered PCM damage, my original suggestion was to have the alternator checked, and would still be a valid check point, the voltage regulator probably got damaged. But you may have more going on now.
ok, I put in a known good PCM and I think I’ve ruled that out. Judging by the voltage readings I’m hoping it’s the regulator in the alternator. I will keep you guys posted. I have not done the one fuse at a time thing yet.
It seems to be acting fairly normal KOEO actually. Voltage is odd, batteries read 12.5 but the sct only shows 10.5. The company I bought the alternator from thinks voltage regulator so they are going to replace that. Unfortunately it’s uses a smaller pull and belt so my old alternator won’t even go on to test without getting a new belt so since they are paying shipping I’m just going to wait.
On my 7.3 everything in the cluster was flashing and blinking when one battery had a dead cell and was pulling the combined voltage below 12.4v- check each battery separately
I've had many shorts with fountains of sparks over the years and usually the only damage is to the battery and my pride... Easy thing to try is swapping in another battery (or two) or just attach some jumper cables to an idling nearby vehicle's battery, then see if you still get the flashy flash on the dash.
The over-current condition you experienced melted wires/contacts somewhere from the battery+ to the main fuse box. I bet you (or someone you hire) will have to go through it inch by inch to find the "melts".
