78 f150 in the process of changing fuel tanks , just needed to know if one without EEC would still work without being connected or should I go with one with EEC ,I know 76-79 had EEC ,does EEC really matter?? It’s my daily driver and I’m sort of on a budget
(19 gal)
No, it matters not on a 1978
By EEC you mean Duraspark electronic ignition
Order a cheap Chinese tank and it should work fine
Electronic Engine Control means a processor or ECU back in those days
Yours has an electronic ignition module and that is enough / wonderful
I think the OP is referring to the hole on the top of the gas tank. OP, if that is what you mean, then yes you COULD use it but also have to change some other parts.
EEC is electronic engine control

That's good info, but most of the fuel tank sellers I've seen refer to the Evaporative Emissions Control as EEC. The original question is correct as asked about fuel tanks. I don't have access to original Ford documents to verify what terms they used, but I'd expect the aftermarket vendors are taking terms from Ford, not making them up.
Pull your old tank before buying a new one to avoid my problem. "It's a '77 half-ton" I thought, so of course it has evaporated controls on the tank. So I bought the tank with the hole. Dropped the old tank and ??? NO HOLE!!! Now I have a tank with a hole that I don't need. Do look first. Assumptions can eat your lunch. Most replacement tanks are available with or without holes for no more than $10 between them. The rubber gasket and "rollover valve" cost about $30 if you shop. Plus the small line going to the gas filler is on opposite sides for the two different tanks.
