My truck automatically reverts back to “no trailer” after I unplug the trailer. I don’t think it has anything to do with unplugging while the truck is running. When the truck starts up, it detects if a trailer is plugged in.
I find that if I unplug my trailer while the truck is running, it will show trailer disconnected and change to no active trailer on its own.
Same here. I always liked to know how many miles I have towed with each trailer so I can do periodic maintenance on each trailer after so many miles, plus I keep track of the miles on the tires and how they tend to wear on each trailer. I think it is a great feature and so far when I unhook, it always gives me the "trailer disconnected" so it not no longer will accumulate mileage. The only way it might still accumulate mileage is if the truck does not recognize when it is hooked up. I have a 5x10 utility trailer that is a 4 way flat plug. If I tow that trailer, I have to tell the truck it is towing it, and deactivate it when I'm done. I used to think the truck wasn't sensing the trailer, then the dealer told me the truck (2012 F-250) does not recognize trailers without brake controls, so I had to tell the truck it was hooked up and not. Not sure if this is the same for my 2022 as I have only hooked to my boat trailer, and it has a 7 way plug on it so it recognizes it each time I hook to it.

Make that three of us, mine seems to disconnect automatically as well.
Add one more, mine are all 7 pin though maybe that is the difference?
The 2 posters saying that they don't revert automatically to "no trailer" when disconnecting have 2019's. It's the same with my 2017; I have to do it manually. You and others who say it does revert automatically have 2022's. Sounds like a change was made between model years.
Okay, I guess I'll delete it and then try as Redford said. I don't know why they didn't make it so when you disconnect the trailer plug it defaults to no active trailer.
Thanks for the help
my 2019 f350 king ranch does this . I back the trailer into its spot , disconnect everything and when i get in it say no active trailer and i just hit the ok button .
