Hi, I have an 87 F250 4x4 LD With a gvw of 6600 (sad huh?)
The previous owner changed the rear leaf springs right before I got it. It now has 4 3" leafs on each side. He used the truck for a slide in truck camper.
I bought an 86 F350 to put the HD axles (dana 50) and Sterling Full float 10.25 in along with the bigger brakes and such. My question is this:
The F350 has a gvw or 9000. BUT it has the same exact front springs (the axle rating for the two are only 60 pounds difference) and the same rear springs but has an overload on top. I am assuming the previous owner put HD 250 springs which is probably the same as the 350. By changing the axles out from the F350 into the 250 and adding the overload spring can I assume I have a 9000 gvw? I have already switched the tranny and transfer case along with the driveshafts from the 350. Both trucks have the same sway bars front and rear. What else is there? I have already put a HD radiator and tranny cooler and have E rated tires. I am using this truck for a small dumper with a dump insert that weighs 750 pounds empty. The truck with 2 guys and the insert weighs in at 6100 on the scales. I would like to have at least a 3000 pound capacity leftover for the load.
I also use this truck to plow with and pull a 14' enclosed trailer. What would you suggest for the front when the plow is on Timbrens? I know with the TTB on these you don't want a lot of front sag or you will eat tires. Some day I will do a Dana 60 front axle swap but until then I would like to keep a minimal sag with the plow up.
