I have a 1999 F-350 SD. While driving at any speed and any terrain, I get a slight vibration and noise from the left front. It is kinda like riding over the bumps on the side of a highway breakdown lane to wake up drivers but, not as severe. It is not constant more intermittent. I had new ball joints, shocks and tires installed in June so I don't think it is any of those. Someone mentioned the 4 x4 axle joint or something like that. This is my first truck so, excuse my knowledge on terms. Any ideas?
Was the noise and vibration there BEFORE the new tires were put on? Or did it start some time AFTER the new tires?
I hear a lot of trucks with one tire that have a bump, pulled cords, whatever, around. And I became one of them! Mine was intermittent, but I finally noticed that it showed up on smoother roads in a more sweeping left curve. I suspected the right front tire. Swapped with spare, yeah that was it. Had to look very very carefully to see anything wrong with the tire. It had a very shallow bump on the right (as mounted) side of the tread area. The up and down curve of the bump was so smooth and spread out, it was almost imperceptible. I found it by rolling the tire down a very shallow hill, while sighting over the top of the tread while walking behind it. Anybody watching musta' thought I was pretty weird!
Don't know if that's your problem or not, but its a thought.
It might be your wheel bearing going out. Try posting this question in the Heavy & Super Duty board on this site and you'll be flooded with responses! It's a common problem on our SD's.
Thanks for the help. I actually got a quick appointment at my local front end/tire shop. These guys come highly recommended and are the ones who did the ball joints and tires. They found the spindle bearing in the right front hub was gone. Took all day for them to locate a new one. I have 5 Ford dealers within 10 miles and not one of them had it. They finally located it and only charged an hours labor no part fee ( its only a $10 part but, still). Well, thanks again. I'm sure I'll be asking something else down the road.
