I have never had mine brake but that is because I shut off the auto braking. Pretty sure you can change the settings in the instrument cluster display. You can have the warning and braking, just the warning or turn it off. If you turn it off though it bugs you all the time about it with those STUPID pop up and ding messages.
If auto braking is enabled, it will brake, it does have that capability.
On my 2017, all I get is a red HUD warning with the blaring alarm and the brakes are pre-charged. I still have to hit the brakes. If I'm in cruise control then it does activate the brakes. If the 2020+ changed that behavior, I'm not familiar with it.

I have never experienced a braking action. I have experienced 2 warnings which were false warnings. Not sure about the system when it warns me of a situation that is not there.

In my experience all of these systems are pretty seriously flawed. I had a false warning last night just pulling out of the drive on to our rural residential street. I was going less than 20 mph and the dash flashed the warning at me. Then because I live where it snows, when the camera is obscured, it has to warn you about that too, and if you disable the warning, you get a warning every time you start up. Beyond ridiculous for a system that doesn't provide any tangible benefit if you are actually paying attention while driving. It can not see better than you.
Had Ford been able to build my loaded up XL last year I would not have this crap on my truck because it was an option. For '23 it is almost impossible to avoid, for your own good of course...

Mine never brakes .. and the braking is turned on..in the instrument cluster display.. so I would say.. maybe it’s a fault in the system..or it’s just not close enough to a object..to apply the brakes.. I know the system in my Volvo works like it is intended to..it applies the brakes within a determined distance .. of the object.. for it to
stop..
