So I’m trying to figure out what thermostat to put in my truck. It currently has a cheap Motorad in it, and it has never had great heat or seemed to warm up completely according to the factory gauge. I’d like to put a Motorcraft in it but the original part is obsolete, and RockAuto doesn’t list one that will work for the 460. However, they list the Motorcraft RT1139 for the other 3 gas engines, and all the aftermarket tstats have the same part numbers. So does anyone know if the RT1139 (for a 300, 302, 351) will work in a 460? Or should I just try my luck with a Stant or Gates?
Looks like a 460 uses the same housing as the 302 and the 351.
It looks like the OE recommended temp of 195* isn't supported by motorcraft.
However the 192* is supported by motorcraft the rt1139 as you suggest.

I would go with the rt1139.
I’ll probably do that. It’s odd they don’t list the RT1139 for the 460. There are also some NOS RT1105s out there which are 195° tstats, but I’m not exactly sure what they came in. And by the way, the RT1203 does NOT fit a 460, even if RockAuto says it does. It is the wrong one.
I'm running a 195° Duralast T-stat in my 460 from Autozone, have been for the last year or two, and it warms up quick and stays about 1/4 of the way up the gauge from C, between the N and O in "normal".
The truck gets driven in sub-zero temps during winter, and high 90s during the summer, doesn't ever take more than a few minutes to get up to temp, and only ever had it past the O once when climbing a 7% grade in 94° ambient temp running the AC on MAX cold...
Overall, I'd say a 195 stat is the way to go, surprised that you're having difficulty finding one for your truck though... Every autoparts store near me has 3 or 4 on hand.

All the parts stores carry thermostats for my truck, but I want to get a Motorcraft cause I’ve heard bad things about other brands. It’s never seemed to warm up very quickly, it hardly ever gets above the N on the gauge, and the heat has always been lukewarm. It did that with the 195° Motorad it had in it and it’s done the same with the one I put in it last week.
