E350 - soft brakes running or now
Brake pedal is soft whether the engine is running or not.
Pedal was fine, then one day it felt like it slipped, lost pressure, and now its soft. Still able to stop the vehicle, just not quickly. No leak found.
Rear brake shoes, springs, and wheel cylinders replaced as they were really rusty and unable to bleed them. Shoes were found to be cracked when inspected.
Bleeding done a few times. Rabs included. Pedal improved, but never gets high and hard with engine off. Gets tougher to push, but pushes far.
Pedal is very squeaky. Maybe wooshy?
Vacuum booster moves when pedal is pressed, cant move by hand. Bolts on inside of cabin are tight.
I figured it was master cylinder, two shops looked at it before wheel cylinders replaced, neither determined it was MC. One said air in line, other said booster.
Does the booster moving like this seem normal?
Is there a good way to test the master cylinder?
I always thought booster bad means pedal unpushable when running.
Would there be some doable tests to narrow down the issue?
