On the issue of trans temp.... my truck came with the standard water to fluid cooler in the radiation and a pretty good looking air to fluid cooler in front of the condensor. I have not installed the trans gauge yet, will do so this weekend, but I was thinking of adding another Hayden air to fluid cooler. Do you think this is worth it? Do you think it is a good idea?
I have a question about installing the gauges in the pod. I am wondering if I need to install the gauges in the pod with the brackets on the back. The friction fit into the pod seems very good. It occurred to me that after if I needed to change a light in the gauge, or some other maintenance issue, the way the pod is attached to OEM A post trim would make it difficult to remove.
mauleace, did yoy ever find out where the dimmer wire is ? If not, take the panel off under the steering wheel. Under the steering wheel should be a 6 wire connector. I think the top middle wire in that bundle is blue with a red tracer. That's the wire I used to tap into the dimmer lights. As far as using the brackets that came with the gauges (I think that's what you mean ?), keep them around if you want, but they're of no use. The holes in the pod themselves will be adequate to hold them. If you still haven't found the hose to tap into for the turbo boost gauge, go to Diesel Injection Service's website, then to their install icon at the top. It will have a diagram of where to find that line. That diasgram is also the one that comes with their turbo boost install kit, which I got from them.
Thanks to you all! I bought my first diesel after researching on this forum and saw the threads about the auto trans troubles. I want to install guages to monitor the vitals but knew nothing about it. I searched for info and found this thread and am now confident enough to do it!
Thanks again to all of you for the detailed info and help.
