Greetings fellow Enthusiasts! Newcomer here with a problem. Hoping to learn from others. We have a 2005 F250 6.0 with turbo. While idling in park the engine idle increased to almost 9000 and the Tow Haul light started flashing. The truck now seems to be in some kind of safe mode and stays in low gear. Any ideas? Thanks for your help, Jeff.
The flashing T/H light means your transmission system has detected an error and stored a code. You need to have the truck scanned to find out exactly what the error code is before you start throwing parts at the truck.
Was that a typo? A 6.0L Power Stroke revving to 9000 RPM?
Oh good. I was going to say if your Power Stroke revs to 9000 RPM the blinking T/H light is a minor concern. Your engine probably has holes in it.
My guess is that you have a bad temperature sensor in the transmission. My 5R110W in my old 2007 F-250 did about the same thing. The part is inexpensive (under $20) but you do have to drop the pan to get to it.
But please, find out the code before you do anything else.
I was going to say if the engine was running away, it would've blown up long before getting close to 9000 RPMs and I would be running for cover to keep from getting hit by flying engine parts.
