hi again, thanks for the clutch help, talked to my mechanic and he says some just aren't vary good, going to condider a new one.
My next question is, I have 1200-1500 rpm at idle speed and very very slowly it will work itself down, I just replaced the IAC and it seemed to only help a little, Could it be the TPS? Cause I know it't not the linkage because tapping the accelerator a little or a lot doesn't do anything.
Could be a bad EEC Temp. Sending sensor telling the engine it's still cold. Get the engine up to normal temp on your gauge and then disconnect this sensor and see if the problem goes away. If so then its likely the sensor.
4.0? Usually it's on the top of the thermostat housing. Follow the top rad hose to your engine. Thermostat housing is usually right there. There's two sensors there on the 4.0. One with one wire - that's the dash gauge sender, the other has 2 wires. It's the one you want to unplug. This'll throw the Check engine light on but don't worry about that. Once it's plugged back in the light goes out.
so for this problem since i do not have the obd II would you recommend that I take it to ford, or to a place like Jiffy lube & tune, nad just tell them I want a tune up? I mean I just don't know why a 2000 4.0 with 50k would have this kind of problem?
I'm not clear about your truck, you said it wasn't ODB-II but then said it was a 2000. A 2000 would be ODB-II, which requires a scanner, try calling your local parts store some will check the codes for free. If your truck before 1995 check out the link on pulling the eec-iv code in the tech info post.
When it comes to the t.p.s. I can tell you this. My 93 4.0 would start up, idle too high, and die. Then it would do the same thing again unless I just opened the throttle a tiny amount. But after about a minute it was O.K.
An Auto Zone $22 t.p.s. did the trick, (after the alloted new learning time for the computer).
There may be other troubles that it causes, (the t.p.s.), but that is one of them.
