USB hub

This should be simple - right. But I'm looking for a powered USB hub that supports 4 or more ports -- not USB-C. I had 2 identical ones that have worked well, but one crapped out and it's (of course) no longer available.

I wouldn't mind if it had a couple of charging ports, but that's not essential. Some come with individual power switches - which only disconnect the external power from a port -- seems dumb.

What I see right now is various brands, none of which I recognize -- and a lot of them seemed to be for Apple products. The search engines also don't seem to get that I want one that's powered (just to prevent accidentally overloading the PC).

All I use it for generally are USB flash drives. I have at times used them for USB hard drives, but I've decided that that's not the best idea.

So if you have or like some particular model, I'd like to hear about it.

Thanks,

hj

Hi hj,

I'm confused.

Are you looking for a USB hub to power/interact with multiple devices and the hub is to have external power?

I use it for USB drives, but sometimes it''s convenient for charging a phone or whatever.

The kind I have ( one left) had 2 charge only sockets

Try searching for "powered USB hubs" maybe?

Bleeping Amazon. I did, in fact use that search before. That particular hub never showed up -- a lot of the hubs were NOT powered and many were for Apple stuff.

Go figure - thanks,

hj

With so much technology being put into basic household items, usb hubs like the one above are going to quickly vanish. I've used them in the past but the pc's I build have more than enough to accommodate everything I need them for. I did buy one built into a tablet platform for table top storage. I recently bought a new adjustable bed and to my surprise there are 2 powered usb ports on each underside as well as a couple of living room lamps that have usb ports in the base.

These furniture usb ports are obviously for just charging things but could be daisy chained to a pc. Talk about a wired lifestyle lol.
