The sleeves on both my 76 door strikers are missing, so I ordered new strikers from Dorman on Amazon. Some of the reviews complained that they were oversize and bound up the door latch.
That seems to be happening on with them on my truck. No matter how I adjust them, they seize the door and I can just barely force the latch to open.
Anyone know the correct striker diameter, have any suggestions, or have a better source? I paid about $10 each.
I don't have a number for you but a great source for them used to be the back doors of Lincolns of the day at the salvage yard. Seemed like they were never used.
I just recently put new Dorman ones on to replace the old ones which were wrapped with "adjustable" sleeves ... 3M Super 33 tape that is. I haven't noticed any binding.
Actually, I used the tape for years ... wrapped it counter clockwise on drivers side ...clock wise on passenger side, then I trimmed it just over the top on the back side.
Easy to adjust once it is built up just by rem oving or adding a wrap or two ... self cushioning too.
You want them adjusted just to hold the door shut, no lift or pushing down on the door.
I had used tape over the metal because the bushings gave up and broke long long ago. The Dormans were cheap enough, they work as well as the tape, but if they too crack and brake the bushings, I'll go back to the electrical tape.
