633 & 621 are both transmission codes.
If the code is 633 that seems to be a 4x4 code so that makes my issue even more weird.

After re-reading this thread, I have a feeling you might have a 4X4 PCM in the 2WD truck if there is such a thing.. You can pull the PCM and post the numbers on it along with the calibration code on your door jamb and subford can verify if you have a 4X4 PCM.
If it is a 4X2 PCM, open it up for visual inspection especially the standing capacitors for leaking or bulging. If you do have a 4X4 PCM in it that may be causing the problem.
I am not sure there is a difference in the E4OD transmission PCM between the 4X4 or 2WD. Let's see what the experts say.

All of the computers for computer controlled transmissions include programming for operation in 4wd lo range except for lightning computers. The computer will command very fast shifts and want to be in overdrive if it thinks the truck is in 4wd lo range.

I would expect there is damage to the harness if this code is showing up in a 2wd truck.

Could the PSOM he installed cause the issue you describe?

The PCM does not know there is a PSOM.
The PCM thinks the speed information is coming from a VSS mounted on the transmission.
The PSOM takes ABS type information from the rear end and converts it to transmission mounted VSS type information.
The PSOM sends this converted information to the speed control module and the PCM.

If the computer does not have speed input you will have hard shifts. Like super hard shifts, but they will occur normalishly as you drive. If it thinks you are in 4wd lo it will jump through all the gears into OD with any throttle input.

Given the codes I would inspect transmission harness.

I think you nailed that one right on the head!

I crawled under. unplugged the transmission harness and it was full of crud/oil/dirt etc. Sprayed it with some contact cleaner and scrubbed the contacts inside with a pipe cleaner. Cleaned the transmission side as best i could without being able to really get my hands in there..Sprayed with contact cleaner and blew it out with air. Packed the whole thing with dielectric grease and plugged it back in.

Hopped in and took off, truck works better than it ever has the whole time I've had it. Shifts smooth and when its supposed to. Downshifts when I ask it to with my foot. It's like a brand new truck!

After reading your recommendation I also read on the bronco forum about an oily cruddy connector causing issues. I never checked it before mainly because of the location right by the exhaust pipe and having to remove the heat shield to access it.

I was told one time to always check the simplest stuff first. I guess I shouldn't have been so lazy!

The weird codes also went away.

I'll know for sure tomorrow if it still works. I broke the retaining clip when removing the plug so I've ordered a new one.

Thanks! I've been chasing this for ages and was starting to get at wits end.

So far, that is great news and thank you for getting back to the forum with your success. I bet it stays fixed.

look into getting "Connector" grease which is better than dielectric grease, it lasts longer

Red face Rebuild?

this is all great info as I am about to let my shop rebuild my E40D. IT will not shift into overdrive (4th gear).I installed a shift kit and replaced overdrive button on gear select. I will clean my connectors and maybe replace speed sensor. Only other thing besides (rolling clutch) might be solenoid........Any advice would help
