Hi all, I have a stock 97 F350 dump that I tow 10k with all the time. It has a 6637 intake and a 3" down pipe going to the stock exhaust. I'm looking for opinions on who makes a good intercooler kit for it. I hit 1250 EGT really easy. (I'm not sure I trust the gauge. I really have to back off a lot to keep it under 1250. I have Glowshift gauges, and hate them. I just ordered ISSPRO gauges to replace them...) The Banks IC kit looks great, but it's pretty pricey... What do you all have?
Cheaper if you piece it out from the junk yard. You can use either a 99-07 powerstroke IC, 99-03 IC pipes (will need to be modified just a little, nothing a 3" exhaust pipe can't fix) IC boots either after market or OEM super duty ones (IMO they are good and last) and the spider from an E99 7.3 powerstroke or use this spider https://www.ebay.com/itm/25492994156...3ABFBMkvqDg_9g
The boost side is fine. There's a little soot on the up pipes, but not a lot.
I do most of my work between 7500 and 10,000 feet altitude, but I still question the Glow***** gauge. We'll see what it is when I get the ISSPRO gauges.
In any event, I still want to do an IC. I'd prefer a kit with all the pieces, but I'll piece it together before I spend north of $1500...
"Little soot on the up pipes" that's a big problem, you would be surprised how much power is lost with small pre turbo leaks
When I ran mine hard this summer at 3k RPM the exhaust sealed up for a bit and it was fun until it cooled off. I have a small leak around the puppies at the turbo. Loud for first mile and quiets mostly down after so it hasn't bother me much.
Mine don't look that bad but when it does seal up, it's a lot more fun to drive. I have new SS puppies goin in.
CHeck fuel pressure, and injector armature clearance. Tight clearance causes a delay in combustion raising temps. Low fuel pressure make for less power and delayed burn too. We already lose a bit of HP with mechanical fuel pump. Cali pulse damper can help with that but it's a tight spot already under there with an added place to leak and efuel is like 650 or so but worth it for power needs and less hose mess.
Altitude for me is 100 feet. My Baro sensor was shot and making me defuel. It's under steering column on my 95. Disconnect it and it will think it's at sea level. If you have more power then it might be out of calibration. If you blow smoke, you not getting enough boost. No change could be that PCM is stuck in a loop if CEL is t working.

For the effort/time/price to modify the 99-03 pipes, I've been very happy with my Carson-Stauffer pipes. They're about ~2x the price of junkyard but they're new and fit great.
Have to agree find a 99-07 6.0 or 7.3 cooler e99 spider and a set of Carson Shaffer pipes and a obs solutions intercooler Mount kit. Along with a set of riffraff boots makes for one very clean install and fits very well.

Yup, this is what I recently did. Of course i came into this once the e99 spiders became more expensive but whatever.
As of mid 2022 this is about what I paid for my entire upgrade:
$300-500 e99 spider (depends, look around or get lucky at a junkyard and pay $50)
$30 misc plugs/fittings/oring for the spider
$180 RR boots
$60 RR CAC clamps
$30 RR plenum inserts
$60 RR intake boot
$220 OBSS mounting kit
$60 junkyard 6L trans cooler
$190 CSD CAC pipes
$110 ebay AL 7.3L IC
$120 downpipe
$350 php hydra
$190 Jellibuilt tunes
so about $1200 for the CAC kit, about $2000 total for supporting mods.
I'm going to take a closer look at the up pipes. I understand it's a real pita to change them, but if I must...
Assuming that the new isspro pyro confirms what the glowshift pyro was telling me, I'll be looking at doing a CAC next.
What do you all think of this kit: https://shop.fullforcediesel.com/atl...ntercooler-kit
I'm about to pull that kit out of my truck, and when I was mostly stock - it did absolutely wonderful, but I have trouble when I'm in it hard with the new turbo/injectors and other mods. I bet it would serve you well with what you have on your truck
I'll sell that kit to you for 750$ Would save you a couple hundred bucks at least
D2, Just curious, what IC setup are you switching too?
I debated Mishimoto and Icebox but ended up going with banks because it's all inclusive and I'm able to retain my stabilizer bar, for some reason the OBS solutions kit says you can't retain it - I asked if there was a work around but never received a response. So banks it is! But it doesn't mean it's going to be any better than the FFD one but we shall see!
You can add a spacer made of thick C channel or square tubing to extend the the track bar mounting, that's what I did and worked good, I removed the track bar I feel that the truck rides better with out it, but that's just my opinion.
