Bouncing like crazy

I have a newer to me 11 CCLB 250. This thing bounces like crazy from about 70 to roughly 80-85. Is this because it doesn't have the dampener piece on the stock hitch? It's smooth all the way up to that point. Or is it just from the expansion joints on the expressway? It's much worse than my 06 CCLB ever was. I put a all new front end parts on, as well as 5100's in all four corners. No change. I should clarify, it's only when empty or almost empty. It really smooths out with weight in the bed.

Question... is your bouncing sensation more like front to back "bucking" or how would you describe it in detail?

What are you running for tire pressures?

I can't quite tell where it begins the bouncing from. I'm running roughly 60# in my tires. They're general grabber at tires. New last year. It bounces so bad it almost takes your breath away.

Run them in the 50s when unloaded, see if that smooths things out a bit.

I used to run my tires much lower than that when unloaded. It’s inconvenient you’re towing every couple of days but once every 2 weeks is long enough in between to justify comfort over capacity. 45 pounds up front and 35 pounds out back is what I used to run in my toyos.

I know the feeling all too well. My '04 CC/LB 4X4 PSD does the exact same thing. Only on concrete highways sections. Asphalt is smooth. Here's a YouTube video I took of mine when it was doing it.

I believeit has something to do with the wheelbase mixed with both front and rear leaf springs oscillating at different rates front to back. It has nothing to do with the tires. Been through several different types and sizes. I've never figured out what it's all about.

That's about how mine is, only difference is I have cool springs in the front. Mine is also smooth on blacktop and even some sections of older pavement.

You're the first coil spring Superduty I've heard, having this issue. I thought for sure it was only a '99-'04 front leaf spring problem.

I've always understood "death wobble" was more prominent of an issue on the '05+ Superduties... but not this "bucking" stuff.

This news kinda bums me out. I recently bought a '06 donor truck to swap all front end components, and axle over to my truck... to hopefully 🙏 alleviate this strange problem. The swap is still worth it for the increased turning radius.

You guys are on the right track. This is a problem with all CC LB Trucks Ford Chevy and Dodge SWR and DWR. Some trucks have it way worse than others. My 03 was bad but my 2010 was horrible. Easy fix between all trucks Fords Chevys and Dodges was to put 300lbs to 600lbs in the bed by the tailgate. There was a lot of testing done on I-70 between Denver and Limon at all different speeds. No one was able to make it go away 100% but everyone's ride got a lot better.

My '06 CCLB did the same, but not near as bad.

I'm beginning to think that this may be the only solution, as it does smooth out with a load in the bed.

That was one option I've seen, the other was years ago... I can't find the video anymore... but a guy attached a 200lb rubber weight to his frame rail at the rear. It took most of the vibration and shaking away.

Colorado guy here! My videos were filmed on I-25 in-between Castle Rock and the outskirts of Denver, by E-470. I've also had this happen up north around Ft. Collins.

Funny thing is, I believe this issue is why my truck's previous owner traded her in. He was a Ft. Collins guy, and all those highways up there are concrete. It probably drove him nuts!

There are several different ways to make the unloaded ride better. It just depends how much time, money and effort you want put out to make things better. On my 2010 I changed the spring rates and now it has very little bucking. Others added quality traction bars and it did help. The trick is to keep the chassis loaded at all times and not allow the frame to start the front to rear oscillation.
