22' F350 for reference. Might be a nitpick here, but I hate the fact that my gear shifter and 4 wheel drive **** flex in the hand when you use them. Honestly it was a bit unnerving when switching into 4 wheel drive the first time, it flexed so much I thought I broke something. Wimpiest POS **** they could have used. You can literally squeeze the thing when turning with your thumb and index finger. Same thing with the gear shifter, not that bad on the regular but I'm surprised with the amount of flex out of it when shifting into drive when its been parked on a hill, etc.
Anyone found any good replacements that feel solid when you use them?

LOL, I bet the majority of folks have never turned the ****. I agree, it's pretty flimsy. I really like the GMC and RAM buttons.
Is this something new? I’ve turned the 4x4 selector **** plenty of times on my ‘19 and never thought it felt like it was going to break or anything. Hardly takes any effort at all to turn it so no squeeze necessary on mine.
on some past ford vehicles...the shift **** will crack around the collar that secures to the shaft.....resulting in the shift **** rotating...but nothing will happen since the cracked collar cant maintain fritction on the shaft.

I've not noticed this on my 22 either, I'll try to pay attention next time i turn it to 4x4.
I like how SD’s still have manual locking hubs in case the auto lockers fail, but they got rid of the manual shift transfer case. A lot of good those manual locking hubs will do you if the transfer case fails to shift electronically.
Get rid of the plastic **** and clamp on some vise grips.

when the defect occurs...you can still turn it...but..nothing happens.
It's not a concern at all on my 2020 F250. Shifts in & out of 4x4 easily. I guess it would be nice if someone offered billet aluminum parts though.....like the lever to pop the hood for instance.
I can understand what's being explained here now. The 4x4 **** does feel a bit cheap, however had I not read this thread I would have never realized it myself. I'm sure every other recent model 4x4 I've owned with a 4x4 **** is the same though, i highly doubt its just a Ford thing.
