I am looking to replace a 1999 air tank but I have a questions on an internal valve inside the tank. The tank has a part number of YC35-2063-AC. I've attached photos of the valve and the fitting that goes with it.
Anyone know what this fitting actually does? It seems like it maybe releases air into the main compartment and then seals off when the tank is not in operation?
Also, would not having this in the replacement tank cause any issues with equipment operation?
what is the tank for, and where is the valve?
it may be a one way valve on the pressure input line so air can come into the tank from the compressor, but no air can go into the compressor from the tank when the compressor is turned off.
The air tank is going on a plow truck. Not sure if it has a compressor. The spring is pretty basic and the "gasket" that is black in my photos is hard and would not provide a completely solid seal.
I will check to see if the truck has a compressor. What do you assume would happen if air did get into the compressor?
air pressure into the compressor head can damage the compressor on startup. it is like trying to start an engine with a cylinder full of liquid.
it will either smoke the compressor clutch, or break a connecting rod in the compressor if the pressure is high enough when the compressor turns on...
