What year, model, trim level is your truck? What iPhone and iOS are you running? I have a ‘22 250 Lariat Ultimate and I can use CarPlay plugged into the USB or wirelessly (not plugged in). I have an iPhone 13 Pro running iOS 16.0.3
22 F250 Lariat, iPhone 13pro, iOS 15.7. For the first few months, I was plugging my phone into the specific USB port to use CarPlay every time I drove. Then one day I left it unplugged but connected via Bluetooth and it showed the CarPlay option wirelessly. Since then I just let it auto-connect through Bluetooth and it has the CarPlay option every time now.
Edited to add I never set up WiFi through the truck either.
2022, F-250 King Ranch Ultimate. iPhone 13. 16.0.2. I would like to run it wirelessly, but I can’t seem to get it to connect.
Thanks
You didn't mention if you tried paring your phone using bluetooth. If you did, then disregard the below. I just went through this procedure on my MY22 F350 Sync 4, iPhone XR, iOS 16.0 and connect to CarPlay w/out a cable (connects via bluetooth). Cut-in-paste below from the Owners Manual.
Enabling Apple CarPlay with Wireless
Pair your device to Bluetooth®.
Follow the instructions on your device and the touchscreen.
CONNECTING A BLUETOOTH® DEVICE
Make sure Bluetooth® is enabled on your device.
Press Settings on the touchscreen.
Press Connectivity.
Press Bluetooth
Press Add a Bluetooth Device.
Note. A prompt alerts you to search for your vehicle on your device.
Select your vehicle on your device.
Note: A number appears on your device and on the touchscreen.
Confirm that the number on your device matches the number on the touchscreen.
Note: The touchscreen indicates that you have successfully paired your device.
There are wireless carplay devices you can find on Amazon. The first one I tried though, extremely slow to connect and do anything. But the device connects to the USB port and then your phone wirelessly connects to it saving you from having to connect your phone every time. if you have Sync 4, it should support wireless connectivity.

I got one of those devices in my 2019 and it has been working almost flawlessly, just an occasional loss of signal every now and then (I mean, once a month or so) which fixes itself the next startup. Game changer, I went from using CarPlay only occasionally to have it constantly on…

Which one did you get, so many of them. The one I got, just took a long time to connect initially and then anything like trying to ask to map directions, play a song probably 3 to 5 seconds. Ideally I'd like to find one that has wireless charging built in. When I use it, I'm usually going on a trip so need phone charging anyway. Locally, was just going to use base wireless connection for handsfree and think it still streams music even without car play.

For charging I connected a squared wireless charger that I attached with two "Command" strips to the center of the armrest, with the wire going through from behind the opening. Works flawlessly and looks almost factory:
It stopped working again. I even went to the dealer and they couldn’t get it to work. I was able to get my phone working on a f -150 with Sync 4. Someone from the dealership with the same phone was able to connect, but like I said, for some reason my phone will only connect with a USB cable.
