I seek your knowledge for my 2011 F150 with 3.5L Ecoboost. A few weeks ago a small sound started coming out of the engine bay. I thought the belt was starting to slip. The sound would disappear after a short moment and all was well so I wasn't too concerned. Today I drove on some washed out, rutted dirt roads and went through a few large puddles along the way. The sound got worse so I popped open the hood and noticed the sound was coming from below the air filter box, not the belt. I can't figure out exactly where. As I started driving towards my cabin the Service AdvancTrack message appeared. This is the first time I've seen the message. Any ideas on what could be wrong? Thanks in advance for the help.
Those symptoms usually indicate the electric rack is about to die. The rack-n-pinion steering in your truck is electric not hydraulic. The only fix is to replace the rack, it has to be programmed as well.
Well damn, that sounds worse than I was hoping and probably something a pro should handle. But, I’ll do some research to see if a weekend wannabe mechanic can do it. Thanks for the info.
