Over-load leaf springs

I have a 1975 F250, 2x. In the rear I have the standard 7 3" leafs, but on top of those are mounted 3 or 4 shorter leafs. The shorter leafs, when truck is loaded, make contact with what looks like stops that clamp onto the frame.
I'm wondering if this was a oe option, or some p.owners invention. Does anyone know?

Are you referring to 5700 in the diagram?

Yes, that is correct. 5700 and 5588. Thanks for the illustration. It seems a bit mickey mouse how 5700 clamps to the frame. That made me wonder if it was factory.

The factory option auxiliary rear springs I've seen are single leaf, but thats mostly on 76/77 F-250s. I believe the spring pad/brackets are riveted to the frame if it came with that option from factory.

Looking at the parts list, 5700 is the bracket as you know but it should also have a bushing as well. That is 5783 in the diagram - if you want to replace it the part number is D3TZ-5783-B

Factory overload bumpers were riveted to the frame and were not Mickey Mouse. Maybe yours were added by a PO.

X2 OEM overloads stop pads are riveted on when they come from the factory. And bolted on when a PO does it. Relook the illustration, 5700 is RIVETED to the frame, not clamped, and no micky involved. You are looking at the wrong item if you think they are clamped on. I am trying to find a good pic of them on my 79 F250 4wd parts truck.

Mine, the ones on my truck, must have been added by a p.o. One of the stops is bolted to the frame. With the other stop, the installer tried to clamp the bottom of the frame between the stop and another piece of metal. THAT is major Mickey Mouse. I'm getting ready to pull the bed and replace the gas tanks. Once the rear tank is out, I'll be able to mount the stops in a permanent manner, or delete them all together. Btw, there are also 4 leafs comprising my over-load leaves.

Post a pic of the micky business, I like to see failed attempts of PO engineering. Even though you pull the bed.... after you fight the PITA nuts that are always rusted on and stuck like chuck, the gas tanks still have to drop out the bottom. But yes way more easier when you can attack from above. I guess the decision to leave them/install properly on is based on the use of the truck. DD or DD and weekender work truck. Blue 78 4wd F250 has them w/single leaf and riveted on.

Silver 77 4wd F250 has them, looks bolted on and with rear adjustable stops and 2 leaf's.

79 4wd F250 parts trucks has them bolted on, multi leaf pack.

Surprised to see them on the 76 2wd F100, riveted on and single leaf. I have been under the back of it in a while.

So, according to the photos, I have the standard leafs (6 @ 3"), but a p.o. has changed the stops to make contact sooner. Leafs below:

Here is the bolted on stop. And, what appears to be a crack in frame! It appears that the p.o. removed the stop from the frame and attached it to a piece of angle iron, and bolted it back on.:

Here is the 'sandwich' mount, very ... creative...

Yes looks like a crack in the lower part of the frame and the rest was made to work kinda deal. So are you going to remove the PO mods and make it right?

Well, at this point I just know that I have to do something. One of the stops had to be removed b/c it was so loose and rattling around. Once I remove the bed and the gas tanks I'll be able to take a better look, with access to the inner side of the frame channel. Since I may be converting to a SuperDuty sterling rear with discs and p. brakes, both leafs may need to be changed, but we'll see. Thanks to one and all.
