Old - pre VIN - ID Codes
Old - pre VIN - ID Codes
Can anyone out there decode Ford ID 2K93T102058 for me? I found a site that said it was a '62. This ID is on a '72 Maverick. It is also on the salvage title. In '62 the Maverick was still just a twinkle in a Ford designers eye! - THANKS!
Turns out '62 & '72 used some of the same VINs.

If you put the number in there it gives you a choice between the '62 vs. the '72.
'72 salvage title Maverick....what's that going for today, $15,000?

Thanks, Now I get it, you have to be savvy enough to know the decade! It's a long drive and a $7200 price tag. Needed to know if it was legit. My second Maverick. I'm cloning it back to a 1970 and painting it yellow with the black stripe hood and side treatment. My wife and I dated in a '70 set up that way ... it has a 302, mine had a 200 ... yes, I will leave that
! All this for a date and, then I am giving it to my daughter for her 21st birthday so she can follow dad to car shows ... yes, she loves old cars ... and classic rock. I'm a lucky dad!

That decoder says it had a 200 as OEM, so watch for what was done to it.
If it's now a V8 make sure it's got an 8 inch rear, and 5 lugs all around. Discs up front would be nice.
Also check the front end for square--those get knocked out pretty easy, turning the "square" engine compartment geometry into a trapazoid.....
My multi-wrecked '65 Mustang was like that with the resulting "Guardrail-seeking brakes".............
Good luck!

Thanks, yes, it does have a front end hit history. There may be a sub-frame replacement in my near future. And, Wilwoods up front as a minimum. I've never been able to set up front drums on an old small Ford car so as not to have at least some pull to one side. Yes. it's 5 lugs, shame my wife's '66 Mustang isn't!

Interesting (to me maybe) Ford built a Maverick stuffed with a Boss 429 to use as a test bed for new brake designs. I'd say that would be an adequate thing?
