Randomly loses a few gears
2017 f-250 6.2 4x4. Recently my truck will drop first, second and sixth gear. Cruise control stops working. The “wrench” light turns on. No check engine light. I can’t put the truck in manual and change gears. After I stop and put in park then back in gear, it will go to fourth gear and then drop to third. Took it to ford, they reset the computer and it starts again in about 2 days (240 miles). I can disconnect the battery for a few minutes and reconnect it and the truck is fine again for another couple of days. Ford dealer mechanic is an idiot. I asked him what the problem was and he told me, “it looks like it’s not shifting properly, probably a computer thing.” Which are the words I told him when I got there. Didn’t offer a solution, but charged me $90 to tell me what I already knew.

On my 2017 F250 w/ 6.2 engine the trans did something similar late last year. It went into "limp home mode" with only 3rd and 5th gear working. OBD2 code reader said "trans output shaft speed sensor fault". On earlier Fords the sensor could be changed from outside the trans, on this one the trans pan and valve body has to be dropped..... Dealer did it for about $1300. That stung since I'd paid to have the pan dropped a month earlier to change the fluid and filter when I hit 100K miles.
I had the truck fixed but was pissed off enough to walk over to the sales dept. and order a 2022 F250. Got the new truck after a four month wait. So far it's 10 speed trans is doing ok.
