Bed question

I have a 54 with a beat up bed and I also have a truck bed trailer but the trailer is 1959. I have heard that they cannot use the newer bed on the 54 but what is different?

The fenders are attached higher to the bed sides on the 57-72 beds. Don't ask me how I know! LOL

It will work but it is noticable. Your running boards will be slanted and you'll see a lot of wheel in the fender opening.

Here is a grid that I did some years ago that depicts the bolt hole positions. I have another for the later beds but it seems to be hiding right now.

If you have both beds now, measure from the top of the fender to where the flare starts to bend out. You'll see the difference.

Report back and tell us the difference. I think it is like 3-4".

Well Abe I took the pictures but am having trouble getting them able to view here (I will fix this to upload progress pictures). The top of fender to edge of 45 Degree angle is 4 inches on at least my 54 bed and the 59 bed had 3 inches. Youb are correct Sir that the fender placement puts the fenders up to high, but you already knew that. I took pictures of each bed and want them up in case anybody wants to see them. Respectfully Kurt G.

Actual difference in bolt hole placement is 1-1/2 inches as measured at the center mounting bolt...the later model beds have the holes drilled higher.
