I would just like some info. Not opinions please as I will ignore any of those. My question is for those who just follow the onboard computer for oil changes on 17+ powerstrokes, if you have enough miles on your truck. What is your normal oil change interval ACORDING TO YOUR COMPUTER? I changed my oil at the first 4k to synthetic Rotela. I've now put on 7k on this oil and the computer is telling me that I have 35% oil life left. Oil looks very clean. YES I'm planning on changing the oil BEFORE it gets to 7500, but I'm just wondering if anyone on here follows the computer or goes by mileage. AGAIN, please no bashing or OIL DEBATE. Just information PLEASE. 2022 F-350 6.7 Powerstroke
I don't think there is a "normal" change interval when going by the computer as it calculates when a change is due based on several engine parameters, driving habits, idle time and time since last oil change. I had a '17 and now a '22 and just change mine when the computer tells me to. Seems to be around every 8K to 10K miles. Always get mine done at the dealership.
That's the type of info I'm looking for, and I thank you for a straight forward answer. Like I said in my initial post. my oil is now at 6900 miles. if it's got 35% more to go, that would bring it to 90k plus. Seems like a lot to me, but my oil is clean. My dealer told me to just go by the computer. And depending on the responses here, that may be just what I'll do. I do moderate towing 30% at about 16k lbs, the rest is highway and in town.
The oil actually looks cleaner than any Diesel oil I've ever seen after that many miles.Yes it's black, but oil in a diesel will turn black after 10 miles lol. Just doesn't look gritty or dirty. Matter of fact I'll go take a picture of it, just for information. I just found this article that REALY explains the intelligent oil system. And did notice that the manual says "expected oil change interval" and not "recommended" good info there if anyone is interested. https://www.yourmechanic.com/article...rent-minderler

Reason: Added info
Good info. let's face it, Oil is expensive, and I know that the truck is also, but it's nice to save a few buck here and there. It's why I asked for the information.
I also changed over to T6 at 5k miles, however I change my oil every 5k miles (and I also send samples in for analyses too). The trucks OLM will report/change based on your driving habits, so it varies. When I am city driving (lots of stop and go) the % drops faster than if I am just driving hundreds of miles down the highway. I do feel like I could go longer intervals, but I have been towing often and use a lot of B20 diesel fuel. My use falls into the extreme/severe service use, and according to the manual that calls for oil changes at 5k miles. Considering this, I’d say forget the OLM (or any of our opinions) and go by the manual based on your actual use. No matter what kind of oil you use, it’s cheaper than a repair I’d imagine… But IME, the OLM doesn’t match up to my use and probably isn’t worth relying on. Of course, YMMV…
that's what I commented above. The manual doesn't say to actually change the oil based on your service, but simply States "EXPECTED OIL CHANGE INTERVAL". And yes the "EXPECTED" is lower than the non severe, but the way I read about the OLM, it should take that into consideration, don't you think?
I go by the oil change monitor, usually ends up just short of 10K miles.
I use the original factory fill 10w30 Motorcraft oil, except one change it wasn't available and used 10w30 Rotella.
I tow heavy about 50% of the miles, and run nearly 100% highway miles.
I put lots of miles on my truck, it's just over a year old and is coming up on 70K, soon to be ready for its next oil change.
The engineers that designed, built and WARRANTY your engine tell you when it's time. I change my annually since I don't put on enough miles (and the OLM keeps track of time as well).
The warranty is only 5 years or 100k miles. Its not hard to produce an engine that can run to 100k miles today with just oil changes. Having an engine that runs beyond the warranty means you should stay on top of maintenance from day 1. Don't skimp.
