Hi, and thanks for letting me join.
I have a 1977 361 cid engine that has a vibration at high idle and above. Not REAL bad but enough that I don't want to risk damage. I have taken the flywheel and balancer off and have the numbers. Flywheel is D2TE6380CA and the balancer is C4TE6316A2. Neither part shows any damage (but I had the flywheel surfaced while it was out). Does anybody have any ideas for me?? Not real familiar with Ford nomenclature but are these parts mismatched??
Can't pin down the balancer but I found that number on e-bay, supposedly for a 361. Balancers differ, and I did find numbers for a 391 and it wasn't the number you gave, so I bet you have the right balancer.
But, other things can be out of whack. The pressure plate coule be off or out of balance. A couple of low cylinders or the beginning of a head gasket failure between cylinders.
Thanks for the reply. I did check with Green Sales and he did confirm the balancer is right. The engine idles very smooth at 700 rpm. And, I pulled the plugs again and checked them---all are clean. I'm kinda at a loss for this problem. I did not run the engine long before putting in my chassis----it is not the same engine from original. The old 330 was shot. The 330 was MD and had a smaller clutch---12 inch. This engine does have the 13 inch clutch and was replaced before putting in the chassis. However, I'm not sure about the clutch balance. That's about where I'm at now. Going to remove the clutch and try the old one and see if that fixes it.
Still trying to get the vibration out of this thing (361 truck engine). It has a Fred Jones tag on it. This is what it shows: first line == C4TZD 361. Second line == bore "E". Third line == Mains "D". Forth line == Rods "D". Fifth line == NO 795275. Can anyone decipher this??? Thanks.
