It's Time To Pull The EEC IV.

I've has this truck for just over a year, it's an 85 F150, 4.9. I've finally gotten around to putting some love it's way and this week's project has been to replace the feedback system with older (and hopefully more reliable*) Duraspark ll pieces and clean up the engine compartment a bit.

I'm loathe to start yanking and cutting wires without knowing their purpose, so I'm gonna start at the termination... the EEC IV 'puter...
This it?

*l know the arguments pro and con about retrofitting vs keeping the OEM stuff.
The PO made some questionable decisions with regards to eliminating certain emissions-era components while leaving others The engine and electronics are no longer working together, but seemingly at cross purposes.
This is happening, I'm not going back.
Thanks.

I do believe that is it.
The wires should go out the firewall thru a oval hole.
Yes do start at the computer and work your way out.
I have not done this but I think only 1 or 2 wires are tied into the trucks harness or normal run system.
I think 1 of them is a oil pressure feed to the computer and this wire I think needs to be cut.
Just make sure you dont cut the oil wire that feeds the dash gauge.
The other I think had to do with power?

Yes, you can unplug (and remove) the computer. Then, there'll be a huge chunk of wires that come out of it and go through a large grommet in the firewall. If you can source one, you can get a grommet without a hole from another truck of that era that doesn't have a computer (such as the 351w)

You can remove that, and then keep going and remove anything that attaches to those wires.

It's a lot of wires so don't let the amount you remove make you nervous. You'll feel like the engine's naked.

There's also several canister plug looking things on the back of the valve cover. You can remove those and whatever they go to.

About all that's going to be left is from the plugs over on the firewall that come out around the steering shaft. One wire'll go to the oil pressure sensor and another to the temp sensor.
Your new DuraSpark II box will plug into those plugs. It's all plug and play.
