I just quit being a ***** and jacked it up.Did not like it but I got it high enough for the trans to clear the frame had a rope tied to the trans jack and just pulled it out. No way I was getting underneath that thing with nothing but a floor jack holding it up.
Tomorrow I'm going to pull off the clutch so I can get it on a engine stand. This job has been pretty brutal. I ended up having to take the hood off there was no way I could get it out otherwise. Im going to start ordering parts now too. I waited to make sure I could even get it out so I was not sitting on new parts and unable to get it out. There is a wrap of around the air conditioner box made out of some type reflective material. and a mat on the drivers side made out of the same material as the hood blanket. Any one know where t get those? The blanket is deteriorated mostly due to me and the wrap around the air conditioner box is mangled also due to me.
I ordered some 5 inch M12-1.75 class 10.9 bolts. from Fastenal. No one in our area had anything close. I hope thats the right size. I'm using the 2000lb harbor freight stand. The thought of that thing hanging on a stand by 4 bolts freaks me out.
i remember working on a 396 at a buddies house and the stand looked flimsy
i cracked all the bearing caps off with a tire iron hanging in his garage after my friend bent his kmart 1/2 drive with a pipe and needed me to bring my tools. Funny part is i had them off while he was on the phone and i pretended to twist em off with my fingers. He was pissed at my solution since he carried my tools in.
I just rebuilt the motor in my 95. I also have the zf5, I was able to just jack it up some and hold it up with a ratchet strap across the frame, my cherry picker was sketchy lifting it up that high so I pulled the core support out, I think it made it easier to align back up anyways. Also, get the morso oil pan gasket, I tried the rtv job and it was very unsuccessful, started leaking while just pouring oil in the motor, tried jacking cab up to do gasket but Trans was in the way, had to pull motor out. Good thing tho, with the cab up about 5 or 6 inches, I didn't have to pull turbo to get engine in and out. Still working on getting mine started to finish putting it together, I actually posted a thread on a weird ignition issue I'm having. But best of luck with ur build
I already ordered the international/ford RTV so I'm going to attempt to seal the oil pan with the RTV. following this write up https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...placement.html (post #9) as close as possible. A bunch of stuff will be here Friday. Then Im waiting on a few more o-rings, Rear main and front seal. I got the m208 melling lpop locally. My goal was to be done by Nov. 1st and it will be close. If I can get this thing running and working right the next job will be paint.

let it sit for 7 days so oil mostly stops dripping down from internals, the ford TA sealant does not have a long working time so get it prepped up well with alignment pin if needed ( cut off bolt head and make a slot for removal)
Its been sitting for days right now. I'm going to put it on the stand, take the pan off and flip it. I have no idea how I'm going to flip it yet but I'll figure it out.
I assume those 5 inch bolts were long enough? And did the arms on the HF stand reach okay? Read somewhere over on the SD forum where user had to modify bottom arms on one some stand because they weren't long enough to reach the lower bolt holes. Don't think that was the same stand you're using though. Thanks for sharing your experience and progress photos.

When I did my diesel Mercedes I hooked it to my engine hoist under tension and let it down that way.
