IMHO, they are junk/waiting to fail engines. Even if you get past the conventional head gasket failure (caused by the cracking block syndrome) their fix was nothing more than a 'bandaid....they drilled a tiny hole in-between the cylinders to provide coolant flow.... and this guy is tiny no greater than 1/16" diameter..... corrosion, dirt buildup, is going to block the passage and it's all going to crack and fail again.

For clarification, anyone in the future looking at this old thread, the Generation 1 engines did not have the head gasket failure and the blocks were basically Mazda 2.0 'L' blocks. We've got a 2012 Edge 2.0L, which needed the turbo replaced at 140k miles due to the wastegate wear out problem of many different engines that use the same turbo design style. Gen 2s used a Ford designed block after Mazda and Ford partnership degraded. Those I would not touch.1st Gen 2.0 EcoBoost:
- 2010-Present Ford S-Max, Galaxy, and Mondeo
- 2010-2013 Volvo S60, V60, and V70
- 2012-2017 Volvo XC60 T5
- 2011-2015 Ford Explorer
- 2011-2014 Ford Edge
- 2011-2017 Range Rover Evoque
- 2012-2016 Ford Falcon
- 2013-2015 Ford Escape
- 2013-2015 Land Rover Freelander 2
- 2013-2016 Ford Fusion
- 2013-2017 Ford Taurus
- 2013-2015 Lincoln MKZ
- 2015-2017 Land Rover Discovery Sport
- 2015-2018 Lincoln MKC
