Head Gasket Question

Hello ladies and gentlemen of the Powerstroke Diesel forum! I have, what I would think to be, an easy question. I'm building a 7.3 and I have a question about the head gasket. I'm building this motor to, hopefully, throw some power at it. I've already purchased studs for the heads, but what about the head gasket? Any one better than another? Do I need adhesive or anything to make the surface of the block or head tacky before I install the head gasket? I only want to do this one, so I want to know the RIGHT way first.

I think this is the longest one of my posts have gone without a response. Maybe it's just such an easy question, people are sparing me the embarrassment. Hahaha!!

With studs and a streetable amount of power, I would think surface finish of the block and head will be a larger factor than gasket choice.

That said, I would prefer Mahle over Felpro.

From what I've read anything over 40PSI you need studs, stiffer valve springs and upgraded push rods. Your truck use will determine what upgraded goodies you willl need. Mahle head gasket is OEM and it's more than capable of holding 40 PSI.

Do I need to use any sort of sealant like that stuff from Permatex Copper Spray-a-Gasket sealer or anything of the like?

You don't have to but you can to help hold the gasket in place, the main thing is to make sure the head and block surfaces are clean.

On a fresh build it's important to let the gaskets mate and seal good to the motor before making big power/boost. 5-6 thousand miles of fairly easy driving is recommended unless you get the heads oringed. There are many factors involved in whether you need orings. Mine is oringed.
