Transmission Cooler Fitting Leak

So I have almost resolved all of my many leaks. This one continues to plague me, however:

My thoughts are, because I see fluid leaking out from between the tube and the surrounding nut, the flare at the end of the tube cannot be sealing at the bottom of the hole and the nut flange is bottomed out so that it just cannot be tightened any further. My question is: is there something that can be used at the bottom of the hole (a copper crush washer of the right diameter comes to mind...) or should I be making my own version of this elbow with a longer tube nut that can force the flare to seal at the bottom of the hole, before the flange contacts the radiator (if a longer flare nut even exists for a 5/16" tube...)?

Thanks in advance,

Geoff

Are you sure that radiator fitting is an inverted flare? Most aluminum radiators have 1/8 or 1/4 pipe thread fittings and require a pipe thread to inverted flare adaptor.

Great question! Never even occurred to me, Crop! Let me look into that a little more...

Monkey see threaded hole...monkey thread fitting into hole...monkey see fitting fits...monkey think hole must be an inverted flare...

Geoff,

You do great work! That looks clean and a good bend!

If everything is the correct thread/flare, then I would just suggest a rubber/flex line somewhere to avoid the engine/trans vibration from breaking that lose. I am sure you have some coiled hardline, but my engine/trans shake too much to hold solid lines for long. (I used AN lines for the trans coolers and external filter setup).

Would be the easiest thing for me to take credit for that section of tube, PCM...but, I hate lying! Shamelessly purchased from Summit! What it doesn't show is the AN6 fitting on the other end and braided flex lines run all the way back to the tranny. Works like crazy, save for this leak.
In thinking things through Crop, if the hole was any other than for a 1/2-20 fitting for a 5/16 inverted flare tube (which is what you see threaded in there now), it would not have threaded all the way down as the 1/4" NPT has 18 threads per inch...correct?

Not much diff between 18 and 20 TPI it will screw in. Take it out and look I think you will find the radiator just has a coupling welded to it. About any parts house will have the adaptors.
