Quick question about the 5R55E. If it is over filled what would happen? I would assume it would come out the vent when its hot where is it located? its leaking tranny fluid but its over the fill mark by a decent amount. at first i thought front seal but it does not look like its coming from there...its kinda closer if not the dip stick area that goes into the transmission.
any thoughts would be great. i plan to take a hose off the cooler and let a little out to get the fluid level in the correct areas and check/test drive again.
The vent on a 5R55E is located on the back of the case on the driver side on top. Overfilling will cause them to leak from the vent.
I have seen the filler tube leak before, you should drain the fluid and remove the small tube from the trans and use a good sealant, I use red Loctite. The tube shouldn't be loose in the case, if its loose you may have to flare the end or replace the tube with a new one. I use a rubber hammer to get the tube all the way down.
