AC freezing up

I purchased a new 2022 F-250 this summer and have had issues with the A/C freezing up a few times. It has only happed around 5 times and never when at the dealer. It doesn't seem to happen under the same conditions that I have noticed. I took it back to the dealer with 2 weeks of having it and they had it for a week and couldn't come up with a solutions or replicate the issue. So nothing they could do. I have figured out that when it does it, the line under the hood completely freezes over. It will thaw out after about 10 minutes of being stopped and work perfectly after that. I've shown the video to the service department at the dealership and am not getting anywhere.

Sounds like a good vacuum wasn't pulled before they charged the system at the factory or there is a leak.

I had one that would freeze upon only after about an hour of use so just taking it to the dealer may not get it to happen when they are trying to diagnose it. Pulled a good vacuum and recharged it and it was good to go. Does the AC stop blowing cold when that happens? If the AC is still blowing nice and cold the whole time and just the line frosting up then it should be good.

Sound to me like it isn't properly charged, and the dealer didn't have the tech hookup the gauges to it to properly diagnose it.
If the charge was low, or it had air in the system, they should be able to tell by the pressure gauges.
They should also go over it looking for a leak at the same time.
They probably just ran it for a bit and it blew cold and didn't quit so they gave it back to you.

It freezes up after about an hour of running it and blows very low while it's froze up. I have about 15k miles on it now and it's only happened about 5 times. I've taken it to the dealer and they had it about 10 days and would just drive it once in a while. Couldn't replicate the issue and multiple other issues. The tech that was working on it went on vacation and locked my keys in his tool box for half the time they had it.

You definitely need to take it to another dealer service dept., that one sucks!

Another thing to consider is that someone may have topped it off with the wrong refrigerant. I don’t know if the low pressure shutoff will prevent freezing if you have a mix of say R134a and R1234yf or R12. If it’s not the right refrigerant the best pressure/temperature info is worthless for troubleshooting.

It would have come from the factory with the refrigerant installed. I would be surprised if it came from the factory that way, but maybe I shouldn't be.

This sounds similar, it doesn't consistently freeze up. But always after about an hour of driving. It will still blow cold but slow enough that you can barely feel it if you get close to the vent.

Maybe I'm on the wrong path, but I think as long as the A/C is still blowing cold, it doesn't matter if the outside of that hose gets frosty. Mine occasionally does the same thing on a warm day when the relative humidity is high. It doesn't seem to hurt anything.

He's saying that when it freezes up, it quits blowing cold, and is just showing that line as an example of when it happens, that the line is frozen over too.

I appreciate the input guys. I have contacted another dealership service center and set up an appointment for Monday morning. The guy I spoke with sounded like he's seen this issue and shouldn't have an issue getting it taken care of. I also shared some of the info you have given me. I will update this thread with the outcome next week.
