Play in Spindle
Hey all, I have a ‘68 F100 2WD and am very new to these trucks. I did a drum to disc conversation using scarebird brackets, and once I had everything off the spindles, I noticed play in the left one. If I grab a hold of the spindle and lift up and down it has play in it. Right side is fine. Is this an adjustment fix or time to replace the kingpin(s)?
I’ve also noticed a single knocking sound (left side) when I make a left turn with acceleration. Is this possibly related or could it be an additional issue?

Lupo 00, that would be play in the king pin. What you can do too is remove the grease cap and inspect the king pin from the top. Have someone move the spindle and observe the top of the king pin for travel.

Lifting straight up and straight down will have some play depending if it was shimmed correctly. There should be a bearing on the bottom side between the knuckle and the I beam. If you push up and down at an angle like you are trying to rotate the spindle, and get play the bushings are probably shot.
