DFord,
I have been through 3 Dorman motors ( the aftermarket ones ) from O'Reilly. They have replaced the motors no questions asked.
But those motors don't want to work correctly. Don't know why. I have replaced the motor, brand new o.e.m. regulator, master switch, and the motors lock up in the maximum down position and the maximum up position.
Have been struggling with this for over a year.
When the motor locks up, I have to release it from its three mounting bolts to be able to move the window up or down.
Spoke to an expert and he said the aftermarket motor must not have enough power or torque to raise or lower the regulator.
I've got a motorhome with Kwikee electric steps that uses a similar motor to lower and raise the steps (1986-1995 Ford Taurus left front window lift motor). I've had them apart to lube and replace parts. Have you tried opening one up to see what the problem is? The motor shaft is a worm drive for the 3 or 4 inch plastic gear that turns the shaft to raise and lower the window. I never had one lockup. There's 3 discs that cushion the gear and shaft that sometimes need replacing.
I removed the regulator and motor. Ran them outside with my 12 volt power supply and noticed the motor gear moves from center to side where it gets stuck under the regulator case when it reaches max up or max down.
I am assuming this has been happening with all 3 Dorman motors.
In my opinion, the shaft and gear should remain centered.
