My 2015 had a Cleaning Exhaust Filter msg pop up when it went into regen. My 2018 doesn’t and when I asked my service guy why he said “I think it’s because ppl would freak when the cleaning msg would come up within a few miles of parking and the fear that something would happen if the driver wouldn’t pass home and go for a long drive”. He said he had quite a few express this concern, he doesn’t know if that’s Fords reason or not. Sounds not unreasonable. In ‘17 or ‘18 Ford stopped the msg showing and now no one worries about the regen anymore. Or that’s the logic.
I believe Ford stopped displaying the "CLEANING EXHAUST FILTER" in 2017 for the first year of the aluminum Super Duty. I'm too OCD to NOT just let it go. IMO, allowing the truck to fully complete, when possible, active regens means less fuel used and hopefully keeps the filter in good shape for longer service life. But that's just me.

These are the same feelings I have about mine. It just wouldn't feel right if I knew that my filter was never actually getting fully cleaned... or knowing that my truck is trying to go into a regen every time I crank it because it didn't finish the last time... meanwhile, it never gets up to temperature to do anything meaningful, so the filter continues to clog... I have actually found that once my truck hit's 95%, if I go ahead and turn the Auto Regen back on then while driving down the road, the regen will kick right on. I don't even have to wait for it to get to 100%. So I always just take a drive... sure I am using fuel, but I like driving the truck, and I enjoy just driving sometimes. The bonus is that I give the truck all the time it needs to not only fully complete a regen, but also cool back down before shutting it off. Saying all of that, I have no idea if I am actually doing anything to enhance the health of the DPF filter, or just being overboard for no reason at all... but it makes me feel better... It would have been nice if Ford would have left that message, or an indicator light or something so that we would know... I just don't see how it's a bad thing. (Then again, now they can charge $250 for the OCR feature... which now only partially solves this.) Thankfully though, the iDash shows me the regen status, as well as EGT temps and more. For this reason alone, the iDash was worth the money spent!
I like driving my truck also but at times when i have an active regen coming so I know I have to take a drive on the expressway to get 'er done, I'm freaking beat but I do it anyhow... Because I'm OCD like I explained. And I also keep driving after so she cools down also.
But great way of explaining it on how we look at it Chad.
You mean PID? Can you do me a favor and post up what it is if you don't mind? But you have a 19 and mine's a 16. Not sure mine would have it... thanks.
How do I get the PID? Did you just want the menu list of what I see, or is it a specific number? I haven't spent much time messing with the iDash, just selecting things that I might find useful as I drive.

When you said screen, I assumed you had a specific PID displayed, PID just means parameter ID which is just the name of the data, say soot load % for example, that is displayed. I'm just wondering which specific one you had... which now that I think about it, is probably just "SL %" like I mentioned. Maybe the iDash software is set up for the newer trucks to run closer to what the dash says. Sorry, I should have been more specific. I think I just answered my own question didn't I?
you can enable the screen that shows you the
percentage in the filter for sure , no symbol that I know of . Ford didn’t want anyone to worry about it and just drive and it would take care of itself . However , I don’t like to interrupt regens so I use an edge monitor so I know when mine stops and starts
Where is this in the Forscan? My 2015 did that when I first got it and hadn't in years, all I get is screen flashes saying cleaning exhaust. I just got the Forscan and haven't had mush time to mess with it.

I agree with you and Chad. On my ‘15 I had the % screen added and would monitor that constantly. When I hit a regen I would drive extra also. I was told by my local dealer that this screen can’t be added to the ‘18.

So it looks like the factory SL % is non-existent for the 17 to 19s but the 20 plus has it right?? That's weird if true.
Last night found fuel for $4.999 and filled up. On the drive home, regen kicked in. It does indeed stop when DPFSL reaches 6% and MPG is 9.7. It continues to clean and went down to 3% before climbing up. After a 60 mile drive it is at 19%. Soot builds up fast.
OK I had the % when I got the truck, 2015 SD 6.7. I had the Forscan hook a few days ago and did not see where you could turn it on. I asked earlier with no response, where do you find this in Forscan?
