I didn't read the story but I would have to ask....if he didn't want to crush the truck, why not just reinstall the equipment so it meets the original, legal build? I realize it would have a price tag and if he didn't have the items he originally removed he would need to purchase them and that would also have an additional cost, but with the price of NEW compliant trucks of the same caliber, I think it would still have been waaaaaay cheaper.

That's part of the mystery. My gut was there may not have been in that good of condition.

It's unbelievable a state Government has this kind of power. I believe tampering with emissions is a federal problem not a state problem. There's no way I would have complied, certainly not to the point of crushing the truck. I would have parted it out - that Cummins engine must have had some value, if nothing else.

Once again, its nonsense that this relatively modern Dodge truck would need to be "crushed" but the state is apparently just fine with him going out and buying, oh you know...a 7.3L Powerstroke, a 5.9L Cummins, or a 6.5L Detroit V8. All of those are going to be "worse" for the environment for this truck even in a deleted state.

The real problem probably was they didn't like his rear window sticker.

Did 2008 diesel pickups even have DPF? Serious question IDK.

Dodge trucks with the Cummins 6.7L engine did have a DPF. Ford also started in 2008 with the 6.4L diesel. Not sure about GM, but I bet it was probably the same.

Ford and GM didn't start using DEF until 2011. I think RAM actually held out on that longer than the others.

Yes, all non-commercial trucks were required to have DPF filters by 2007. Hence the short production run on the 2007 6.0, LBZ Duramax and 5.9 Cummins, replaced by the DPF-laden 6.4 Powerstroke, LMM Duramax and 6.7 Cummins.

Commercial trucks (cab & chassis) didn't require DPF until 2010 although I think most of your small trucks (F450/F550) got it anyways.
