Flowmaster single or dual out?

I have a brand new 2003 F-150 with a 4.6 v8 engine. It is single out now. I am considering Flowmaster exhaust to get that rumble sound. two questions:

A) is there any hope of ordering one of these cat back systems and actually being able to install it yourself in the backyard with a few tools? and

B) does it make much difference if you have single or duals running out the back?

I know not to touch and exhaust system that is old and rusted because it's more trouble than it's worth to just take it to a muffler shop but I thought with it being brand new maybe things would actually come apart. And since it isn't really dual exhaust, are the two pipes coming out the back reall more for looks?

you can definatly install a cat back system in your back yard. the hardest part will be getting the stock system out. that should nto be too much of a problem for you since the factory system is just clamped on there and it is a new truck.

As for single or dual?? i would go with dual, it lookes and sounds better.

go to the flowmaster website and they will tell you all about how to do it, and what you want to get for your needs.

www.flowmastermufflers.com

hopw that helps

As umdstang stated, it is very do-able in youre garage. And yes, the hardest part is taking the stock system off. As for duals versus single, the duals from behind the muffler are purely a personal choice(looks). A single three inch pipe can outflow that style of duals. Only true duals with some sort of H equalizer pipe would be better than the single setup. If you are looking for some exhaust ideas, you may want to check out www.proficientperformance.com . They carry quite a few manufacturers, and have very competitive pricing.

Oh, one more thing. If you do any kind of towing, stay away from duals out the back.

All of the carbon and other exhaust deposits will be left on the items being towed. Also, have you ever felt a hot exhaust pipe? The hot exhaust will also be dumped onto said towed materials. If you check many of the major exhaust manufacturers and distributors websites, they strongly recommend against running duals on tow vehicles.

an atvantage to duals out the back will be that sand, mud snow ect will not be tossed directly on to any tips you have.

wheelMA1,
Do you know how bad the exhaust depposits will be on the trailered item??? i dont tow that often but if i have to i dont want something covered in soot.

Also where in mass are you from??? im from a little town called whitman next to Brockton MA.

No, I dont. I have never run duals while trailering (but I have run duals). It all depends on how often you tow, as well as the duration of each tow. If youre just running a half hour to youre favorite offroad spot or something, it shouldnt be too bad. Its the people who tow regularly that should find the problem. Youre best bet would be to contact some manufacturers and see what they have to say about towing and duals. UMD, I am a half hour west of worcester in a very small town called Hardwick. Is the UMD for UM dartmouth? I went to UM amherst.

I just tow a couple muddy four wheelers to a place about 70 miles away, soot wouldn't hurt them or the trailer because both have a good coating of mud anyway. thanks for the info all.
