Possible tranny issue

I have a good shape 93 f150, automatic with the e4od 2wd tranny. My truck has 130000kms on it (80000ish miles). The truck takes about 2 mins in the morning and when i get off work(when its cold) to actually click into gear. The shifter will go into its correct place and click into gear but the tranny just goes from park to neutral untill it goes into the desired gear. Once warmed up, it shifts with 0 slippage untill i come to a complete stop where it slips a bit then goes forwards. Also, i have to put my truck into park whenever i come to a stop because it wont idle in gear and dies when stopping. In park, it idles great. Does anybody know how to fix these issues or if they are connected. I have rebuilt my shifter column with a new set of shifter bushings and put locktite on everything that i was supposed to put it on. Any help is appreciated

Wow. That's a good one. There's much more competent transmission people on here that'll chime in with their thought but I'll take a WAG at this problem.
Sounds like you're not developing transmission pressure until things start warming up.
1) Have you checked the easy thing, transmission fluid level?
2) The transmission shouldn't care about codes when it comes to shifting into gear, but you should check for codes. It's free and easy.
3) Rent or borrow a transmission pressure gauge and connect it to the test port when you start the truck. This will let you see what the pump is doing.
4) If everything is good, then you probably have a valve body problem, and the valve body isn't pushing the fluid where it needs to go. Maybe swollen or broken orings.
