Hitch on rear, never tried the front but would guess if I had to around the crossmember, but just 2wd. With the tow straps. Chains can do a lot of damage. Front frame rails not meant for a lot of side pulls.
Here is an idea, you can find these tow hooks on 98 Expedition's and on 04-08 F150's. They make a steel and aluminum version.
For a F250 here is an idea.
Back to a F150 on the front frame rail. YES not for side pull's for sure.
Notice how the bottom part of the frame is bent. So reinforce it with some steel and drill and use both hook mount holes. This is also a great way to get a chain in the bottom of the bumper.
I read here or somewhere else about the Expedition hooks and got a couple from a junkyard. I went with the solid cast ones and used one existing hole and drilled one new hole for each one.
I wrap the chain around the leaf spring where it attaches to the frame on the front of the truck.
I have a pintle that goes in the receiver to attach a chain to the rear of the truck.
I have a set of 10,000 pound hooks bolted to the front of my truck like the last pictures 77&79f250 posted. I used two 5/8 I think bolts in each one with some 1/8 thick 2” washers. They’ve held up really well. They go right under the bumper even if my truck is stuck in something.
