Hey all, I'm new here
Got my sights on a 96 E150 Conversion van. Its been sitting for 9 years, but looks to be in pretty good condition. my main worry is that the Engine could have seized due to sitting. best tips on getting it going?
I doubt it’s seized. Bring a wrench to turn the engine and you should find it to be fine.
Budget for a set of tires and possible wiring harness work. The engine bay’s gotta be a rodent den, as well as the frame rails and top of the fuel tank.
Unless the cost is almost nothing you'd most likely be in for a ton of work reworking all the "soft" parts like vacuum lines, heater/coolant lines, huge possibility A/C system has leaked down and is moisture laden by now. Certainly tires as mentioned will be shot, electrical insulation severely degraded, engine oil and ATF definitely needed changed ASAP. Brake fluid and lines, the E-Brake cables rusted so they're no longer operational, flexible brake lines and seals also compromised
If the ignition system is pre-Modular Motor there is a huge possibly some of those components have failed or developed issues over this time sitting idle.
The not-asked question is why was this left sitting all that time?
Sometimes one man's trash will be another man's trash---proceed carefully, don't think it'll be a few dollars and short time to having this back on the road in top running condition.
i went and got it to turn, so thats good news. The next thing is to remove the bad gas. i assume the tank would need to be dropped to clean that out, but will i also need to Clean out the lines and injectors?
The injectors should be fine
The tank will need to be replaced most likely
You can inspect the inside with a cheap borescope from Harbor Freight
Or pull the tank and inspect
You can get a pump and tank cheap on ebay
you might want to leave the return line disconnected at the pump the first time yu fire up the pump and build pressure
That will shoot all the bad fuel out of the lines if you prime it a few times
