Truck Bed Rust

I wonder how many 2005 F150 trucks had their bed rust through because of Ford's dumb or cheap idea? At the front right corner, above the muffler Ford fastened a piece of insulation to the bottom side of the bed. I now have a hole because of moisture trapped there over the years. Thinking of removing it and fastening a piece of flat galvanized steel from the front bed support to the next bed support. That would give a good air space between the bed underside and the piece I would install. It would act as a heat shield for the muffler and would not trap moisture. Anyone else have this problem? Other ideas?

Some photos of the heat shield I added when I removed the rust causing insulation.

Heat shield with an air space above that is between the front two bed supports.

Piece of insulation

The piece of insulation was glued to the underside of the between between the red lines and fit between the 2 front bed supports.

Hole in the bed at the right front corner near the front bed bolt hole.

You mean that one is supposed to drive them in rain or snow or sleet to even get them wet there?

I saw that insulation years ago, no damage ... but it is shielded ever since then.
