E99: Relocating Battery Ground Wires?

I'm going to replace all of my battery cables. Is it a bad idea to move the driver's and passenger's battery-to-block grounds at the underside of the block to elsewhere, such as at the hoist eye lift bolts? The factory locations are a mess, not staying clean due to mild oil leaks and I'd like to move them to a location easier to access.

You could move them to anywhere you want but I wouldn't. Where they are now, they have never been in my way for anything and oil on them won't hurt them and it will stop them from corroding.

Thanks for the reply.
Would it be necessary or beneficial to make the two battery ground cables the same length? Although I've not actually measured them, they look close.

The decrease in resistance when matching the wire length is negligible as long as the wire, conductors, lugs, fasteners and mating surfaces are clean and free of corrosion. You could remove each of the wires and test them for resistance to satisfy your curiosity or to verify the condition of the wire beneath the sheath.

As Mark said, these locations have been working well for millions of trucks.

I agree that the factory locations do their job well and don't seem to be an obstacle for any normal maintenance but if you are wanting to move them that is your call. As long as the new location you choose is substantial enough to support the cable size and has good metal to metal surface contact with the block it should be fine. I suggest using your multimeter to test continuity between any of your prospects and the alternator ground post to be sure it's a viable option.
